    Term Dates

    On 27th June the school will be open as normal and before and after school provision will be available as usual.

    Dogs

    No dogs, with the exception of service dogs, should be brought onto the school site. Also, if you need to leave your dog outside the school, please tie them to the fence and not the gates which need to be opened and closed. Thank you.

     

    Holiday Camp at Coldfall

    We still have some spaces in our Easter camp! You can top up your Arbor account and book under Activities – Clubs – Easter Holiday Camp. If you are using childcare vouchers to pay, please email the office before booking. Thank you.

     

    Club Bookings

    You will be able to book Activity Clubs for the summer term from 31st March at 8pm.

     

    Community Gardening

    Our free Community Gardening sessions restart next Wednesday 5th on our school allotment with Mrs Greene and we will be planting seeds to grow vegetables at home. All welcome - no experience or commitment required!

    Who: Parents/Grandparents/Carers/Staff and up to two children
    (adults must stay to supervise them)

    When: Weds 2nd April 3:45 – 4:30

    Where: School allotment (fenced off area left of the dining hall) behind playhouse

    Bring: Nothing required, but bring gardening gloves if you have them

    If your child has piano, violin or singing lessons at school, you are invited to watch them perform on the following dates:

    Monday 31st March 3:00pm Lower Hall – Laura Woods Voice students

    Wednesday 2nd April 9:10am Lower Hall – Pablo Castro Violin students (pupils to arrive at 8:50 to tune instruments and warm-up)

    Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of each performance.

    Please note any clothing that is not clearly named will be donated to Friends of Coldfall each Friday for their second-hand uniform sales.

    Any named lost property will be returned to your child’s class or can be collected from the playground every Friday after school.

    Year 3

    We are delighted to inform you that, to enrich all of our learning in Geography this half term, we have booked an exciting school trip to River Lee Country Park. Nightingale and Magpie classes will go on: Monday, 31st March Owl class will go on Friday, 4th April. We will be leaving the school grounds at 9am and travelling by coach then returning to school by the end of the school day, depending on traffic. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time, thank you.

    Swan Class have their cycle training next week.

    Head Lice

    We have an unusually high number of cases of head lice in school at the moment. Please check your child’s hair this weekend and treat them if needed. Please also ensure all children with long hair tie their hair back whilst at school. Thank you.

    Easter Movie Event

    Easter comes to Coldfall on Friday 28th March!

    Friends of Coldfall are holding a Year 4 cake sale on the upper playground from 3.20 - 3.45pm.

    Then join us for our Easter Movie event where we will be showing Hop. Doors will open at 6.15pm. Tickets can be purchased from: https://www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofcoldfall/

    Night Owls Friday 28th March

    Due to and FOC movie event taking place in the Main Hall, all Night Owls children in Year 1-6 will be in the Lower Hall from 5pm.

    Year 3

    Year 3 will be making scarecrows later this half term in their Green School lessons, to protect the vegetables we’ll be growing in the allotment.

    Each class will need some old clothes to stuff to make the scarecrows. If you can donate any of the following unwanted clothes, we would be very grateful:

    - Children’s pyjamas (long sleeved)

    - Long sleeved T-shirts

    - Leggings

    Please give them to your child’s class teacher who will pass them on to me. Any extras will be donated to charity.

    Year 5

    Year 5 will be visiting London Zoo on Tuesday 25th March.

    Robin Class have their cycle training next week.

    Year 6

    Year 6 will visit the RAF Museum on Thursday 17th March.

    You are invited to come and watch the Year 6 Samba Competition on Wednesday 26th March 3pm in the Main Hall. Children should come in their school uniform and bring colourful clothing and accessories to change into for the competition. We hope to see many of you there.

    Music

    All children in Year 4, 5 and 6 who are participating in the Carnegie Hall project with The Guildhall School of Music need to bring their instruments with them on Monday. Children who play a woodwind instrument will also need their instruments on Tuesday.

    Holiday Camp at Coldfall

    Coldfall Easter Holiday camp is designed to provide your child with a fun and enriching experience during the break!
    Here are some highlights of the camp:

    • Activities: A variety of engaging activities that p           romote creativity, teamwork, and skills development.
    • Location: All activities will be held at our school premises, ensuring a safe and familiar environment.
    • Bookings will open: Monday, 10th March at 7pm via Arbor (under Clubs).

    OPAL

    Helpers needed! Please come along and join us for OPAL ‘get it done’ afternoon on Friday 21st March from 3.45pm to 6pm. We will provide tea and cake in exchange for any help you can offer. We will be working on digging an area for the sandpit, building a scooter track, installing some musical instruments and generally making our playtimes even more fun for our children. You are welcome to bring your own children with you if they are able to help too!

    We are joining together with other local primary schools to clean up our beautiful ancient woodland, Coldfall Woods. Please join us if you can!

    Children need to accompanied by an adult. We will have litter pickers for the first 30 people who arrive.

    Date: Wednesday 12th March
    Time: 3:45 – 4:30
    Place: Meet by the gate from Coldfall Primary that goes directly into the woods (go down the path closest to school that leads from Everington Road into the woods, and you’ll see a blue fence on the left when you enter the woods – we’ll meet there)
    Bring: Gardening gloves if you have them. And wellies or spare shoes as it will be muddy.

    World Book Day Celebrations: Friday 7th March

    We can’t wait to see the children dressed up as their favourite book characters on Friday. We look forward to welcoming the Harry Potters, the Hermiones, the Gangsta Grannies, the Goldilocks, the wolves, and whoever else may walk through our doors! We have lots of exciting activities planned for the children including a special assembly from Peacock Class.

    International Women’s Day Concert 8th May

    Many of you have previously shared an interest in ‘masking’ therefore we are putting on a workshop to further support this.

    Please find attached an invite and more details on this workshop, Social Battery and Masking workshop, which will be led by Rodanthi Chatzinikolaou, Educational Psychologist.

    We hope you are able to attend. Unfortunately this is not available online and won’t be recorded.

    Opportunity to submit artworks – all year groups

    Now in its seventh year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–18 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts. Submission is open until 5 March 2025. Coldfall Primary School is registered and parents can submit artworks on behalf of their children on the website. We have so many amazing artists in this school and encourage any of the children to submit an artwork they are particularly proud of.

    Sweets

    This is a reminder that children are not allowed to bring sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc into school. If any of the above are seen, they will be thrown away. This includes after school activities. Children should bring in fresh fruit and veg as snacks only.

    Uniform

    Children should wear either a Coldfall uniform fleece/cardigan/jumper with a logo or a blue fleece/cardigan/jumper to school every day, even on PE days. If your child comes to school wearing a non-uniform top as specified above, they will be given a jumper from lost property to wear.

    Year 3

    Year 3 will be visiting Fortismere school for a theatre performance on Wednesday 26th February. As part of their GCSE project, the Theatre Studies students at Fortismere will be creating a short play based on our science curriculum all about skeletons, muscles and healthy eating.

    We are hoping to start playing games each week in Year 3 and are looking for donations of

    Please bring any donations to the school office.

    We will also be asking for parent volunteers who may have 30 mins weekly to spare. If you would like to volunteer, please email the school office with your availability.

    Chris Smith Author Visit for Y3, 4 and 5

    Apologies for the error in the letter regarding this visit. Chris Smith will be visiting on Wednesday 29th January. The deadline for ordering a book is Midday Tuesday 28th January. We will not be able to accept any orders after this date.

    Uniform

    On the 29th January, at 2.30PM, we would like to invite parents and carers to join us to prepare and enjoy healthy fruit snacks that the children will be designing in our next Design Technology sequence. We will be doing this in the classrooms. The children would also like to celebrate all their other learning with you after the activity by showing you their books. If you are unable to attend, we will take photographs of the event which will be posted on Google Classroom.

    Reception

    We are excited to introduce woodwork to our children in the Early Years this term. Woodwork is popular with young children and provides a rich source of enjoyment as well as learning. It helps develop children’s imagination and creativity as well as practical skills. The impact is long term.

    A full risk assessment has been carried out for woodwork activities and the children will be supervised at all times in a designated woodwork area. Only 4 children will be in the woodwork area at any time, accompanied by a member of staff. Woodwork is actually a low-risk activity when introduced and supervised correctly. It allows children to experience risk in a controlled situation, providing opportunities for making judgements and learning to self-risk assess.

    Initially, children will be taught how to use the tools safely and will be given the opportunity to try techniques in appropriate ways. Once they have mastered basic skills, the children will move into open ended exploration, making unique creations for themselves.

    We look forward to sharing the children’s new skills with you over the coming months.

    Reporting absence

    If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, you must let the school know this by 9AM at the latest. You can report absence by phoning the school on 0208 883 0608 or by using the ‘Reporting Absence’ form on the website. You must let us know for each day of absence, or let us know when you expect your child to be well enough to return to school.

    Year One

    Flamingo Class assembly is next Friday, the 17th. Please come along to watch the assembly, straight after drop off. The assembly will be in the Main Hall. You are also invited to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit after the assembly.

    Year Three

    Miss Queeney has had a wonderful week with Magpie Class and is looking forward to the year ahead. She looks forward to meeting you all as the term progresses.

    Year Four

    In PSHE this term, with Mrs Marshall, the children are learning about dreams and goals. On Wednesday 15th, Year 4 will be creating their dreams in a 45-minute lesson through various media. The children have already planned what they would like to do, and they have the option to bring in things from home to help create their dream. For example, they could bring in some magazine pictures of footballers where they can create a collage, or some fabric and fabric pens to show their fashion design vision! You do not need to go out to buy anything for this; some resources will be provided by the school.

    Year Six

    Mrs Stapleton would like to pass on that she’s had a great week with the Woodpeckers and is very impressed with them. She is looking forward to the rest of the term and year.

    Boiler and Heating 

    We have an engineer coming to look at the boiler on Tuesday. We are hoping for good news and will update to as soon as possible. In the meantime, please continue to send children in the effected classes to school with warm layers.

    OPAL Donations

    We would absolutely love some old wheely suitcases. If you have any at home, please bring them to the school office. We can ONLY accept ones with wheels that work please.

    Call for a Santa

    Festive events in school

    As well as the many shows and performances listed below, we have the following festive events:

    · 18th December – Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas lunch. Please bring in £1 for Save the Children and EducAid.

    · 19th December - Class parties. Children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. Please note, there is no need to provide any food for the parties.

    · 20th December – As it is the last day of term, school will close at 1.30pm. there are no Activity Clubs or Night Owls on this date and you have not been charged for a session.

    Concerts

    Please complete the form below to give permission for your child to perform by Monday 9th December. Please note that as this event is outside of school hours, your child will not be able to perform if we do not have your consent. Tickets will also go on general sale on Monday 9th December.

    Raffle Prizes for the Winter Concert - On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December will be holding our annual Christmas Concert featuring all children in Year 5 and 6.     Biblio Buzz

    Biblio Buzz orders via the school have now closed however, you can still purchase the book packs from Muswell Hill Children’s Book Shop. Packs that have been pre-ordered via school will be delivered and distributed next week. The dates and time of the book clubs will be confirmed soon.

    Eco Reminders

    Community Gardening - Wednesday 11th December, 3.45-4.30 on the school allotment (to the left of the main hall, just behind the playhouse). FREE, drop-in session with Mrs Greene. Join us for some festive fun at this last session of the year. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Road Safety Competition – Deadline Friday 13th December
    Years 1-6 are invited to enter our school road safety competition following our assembly this week. Any creative project about road safety can be entered – e.g. poem, animation, film, poster, cake. Give entries (or a photo of it) to your class teacher or send in by email.

    The Nursery Sing-a-Longs will be On Wednesday 11th December at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
